"We can highly recommend Alan and his team. From start to finish they were excellent - great communication, prompt, tidy and coped with kids/animals/endless amazon parcels with good humour and patience. Initially we only had a very rough idea of what we wanted, but Alan was great at coming up with ideas and practical solutions along the way, with the end result being a garden with a definite wow factor, whilst still coming in on budget."

"Starting any project is a daunting task. Where to start, how do I tell a builder/landscape gardener what’s in my head?  I started looking on the internet and local publications. Alan’s business kept popping up. After looking through his website, I knew he was the man for the job. When Alan arrived I had a rough sketch of what I wanted.

He looked at the rough sketch, and I could feel the cogs turning in his head.  Straight away he knew what I was wanting. He even gave me advice on the pros and cons of different materials and their cost.  After agreeing for Alan to do the work he kept me informed of every stage. About time to complete each stage and cost. This allowed me to make small changes as we went along, at no extra cost.

When the work was complete, it exceeded all my expectations.  Alan and his team are perfectionists right down to the smallest of details.  For the price of a family holiday, I now have a garden which is maintenance free and a great place to entertain family and friends for many years to come.  I can’t thank Alan enough, and would recommend anyone who has any concerns to get in touch."

"I’d hire Alan again in a heartbeat.  Alan and his team were great to work with.  Communication was very good, especially in talking through ideas, adapting to supply limitations (which is how we got the two-coloured flagstones which I think works even better) and decisions needing to be made, as well as what’s possible given the area we had to work with. I love how my garden turned out."

Patios & Paving  FAQs

Have questions about our patios & paving  options?  We’re here to help.

  • What patio materials do you work with?

We build patios in porcelain (including Jasmine, Beatrix, Ursula and Elsa), Indian sandstone such as Raj and Rippon paving, Yorkstone, limestone, block paving, cobble setts, resin and pattern concrete. We can mix materials, such as porcelain with setts, for borders and detail.

  • Porcelain or natural stone: which is better for a patio?

Porcelain is very hard-wearing, low maintenance and resists stains and moss, which suits busy family gardens. Natural stone such as Yorkstone or sandstone has a traditional, varied look that weathers in naturally. We'll explain the pros, cons and costs of each for your garden.

  • Where can I see paving samples?

We work closely with local stone supplier Prices Paving and recommend visiting their showroom to see a wide range of natural paving in person before you decide.

  • Do you design the patio as well as build it?

Yes. We advise on paving types, styles and colours, what is and isn't possible, and how to make the best use of your space. Many customers come to us with only a rough idea or a sketch.

  • How long does a patio take to build?

Most patios take 1–3 weeks depending on size, levels and steps. We keep you updated at every stage on timings and costs.

  • Do you cover Harrogate as well as Ripon?

Yes. We build patios throughout North Yorkshire, including Ripon, Harrogate, York, Boroughbridge, Thirsk, Northallerton and the surrounding villages.
